Autumn in Granville Island, Vancouver

We had some pretty nice weather this Autumn and for some reason, I feel that our leaves are extra red this year. It must be my eyes playing tricks on me.

This time we went to Granville Island in Vancouver for a little bit of relaxing walk-around.

Granville Island is located to the south of Downtown Vancouver. It is right underneath the Granville Bridge. It is also where the Emily Carr University of Art + Design is located. Click map above for the interactive Google Map.

Granville Island attracts a lot of local and out-of-town visitors. The fact that it has a lot of different facilities makes it a place suitable for everyone in the family and it is always a weekend favourite for a lot of families. The parking lots are always full as you can see.

This is the Granville Bridge. I love the ivy that changes colour in Autumn. I can’t wait until the ivy reaches the other side of the arch structure. The bridge is a rather exceptional structure considering that it was completed and first opened to public in 1954. Read more about it at Wikipedia.

In addition to red leaves, there are also a lot of trees only turn yellow, and then brown, and all the leaves will fall off. How even is the browning happening on each leaf on this tree!

The other thing that is amazing at Granville Island are the number of pigeons that fly around almost all day long. It is almost as if they are celebrating the peaceful time we are enjoying.

Back to some more red leaves. I can’t wait to visit Kyoto to experience autumn there, too.

The leaves on the Canadian maple trees are quite big. I wonder if they are equally big in Japan….

Even though the red leaves are very spectacular during this season, seeing some of the bare branches actually makes me want Spring to arrive sooner. I am sure we will have a long wet Winter again this year. Hopefully we will have a lot of snow for our Olympic Games in February 2010.
