Kani Douraku

Always wondered about Kani Douraku (かに道楽) as seen on a lot of travel advertisements and TV programs of Osaka. So here we are seeing one gigantic crab on the wall of the Kani Douraku restaurant!

Dōtonbori

This is our first time to Osaka and Dōtonbori (道頓堀) in Osaka is a must-visit attraction. We were leisurely walking through the shopping streets in the area and took loads of pictures. Here are some to share with you.

Shopping at LIFE Supermarket

After spending some time at local supermarkets like LIFE, I realized that the groceries expenses in Tokyo and Osaka are pretty similar to those in Vancouver.  For example, imported alcohol like Yellow Tail from Australia costs ¥858 (roughly about C$11). Namba Walk

After settling into our hotel, it’s time to find some dinner.  The weather was crisp and chilly and we opt to walk underground at Namba Walk.

Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka

A friend recommended this hotel in Osaka and we were lucky to be able to book it in a very short amount of lead time.  We happened to find it in HotelClub.com and it was at a pretty decent price. With this booking confirmed, we are spending a few days in the Osaka neighbourhood.

Shinkansen to Osaka

Sadly we had to leave Kakegawa. We had so much fun in such a short period of time (2 days 1 night) but we were scheduled to be in Osaka next.  So here we go on the Shinkansen and this time, my wife was prepared; she brought us bentos to have on the train!

Kakegawa Castle Palace and Tea Room

In between the Kakegawa Castle and the Palace (二の丸御殿) is the Tea Room (二の丸茶室), it was a nice surprise to have a chance to try the green tea produced right at Kakegawa prepared by the tea master!

Kakegawa Castle

Before we left Kakegawa, we also visited the Kakegawa Castle (掛川城天守閣).  This is my first time in a Japanese castle and it was great seeing one.

Rained in Tokyo

During our stay in Tokyo, there was one day that it rained cats and dogs. It rained so much that when we walked out, our shoes were totally wet inside out within minutes.
