iPhone Apps with Augmented Reality Interface

This is a cool iPhone app to help passengers find the nearest subway station in New York. It combines the use of compass, GPS, gyration sensor and camera. Nice and simple user interface design that resembles the virtual screens seen in Ghost in the Shell.
Now all we need is a version for Tokyo :)
This kind of application is called Augmented Reality application. Wikipedia has the following introduction:
“Augmented reality (AR) is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real-world and computer-generated data (virtual reality), where computer graphics objects are blended into real footage in real time. The term is believed to have been coined in 1990 by Thomas Caudell, an employee ofBoeing at the time[1].”
If you watch sci-fi movies or anime, you would be quite familiar with the concept of AR. It is awesome to see AR becoming more popular on the iPhone platform.

really cool stuff, like from the anime Eden of the East!
didn’t know there were already so many neat apps! ^^;
AR really puts a futuristic spin to how we can use gadgets and information available to us. It is fascinating stuff.
