Another attraction of Tokyo is Asakusa, known for its famous Sensoji Temple . During one of the warmest days of our visit, we managed to pay a brief visit.

The main entrance is always full of visitors. It was a weekday and we were overwhelmed by how many visitors they have. Continue reading

This time, we are going to show you Nabe we had in Tokyo. Friends of ours took us to ChankoDining. It is a restaurant owned by a former sumo wrestler champion.

Before talking about the food, I think it is important to highlight the excellent service we received. We didn’t have to make the nabe ourselves. There was a very friendly waitress helping us with our cooking. Imagine having to cook nabe 10 times a day!? Also the waitress is totally wired. She has a microphone on the front of her shirt, and she also has an earpiece. Guess that is to enhance communication with the kitchen/co-worker to provide better service for their customers in the restaurant. Continue reading

Lets continue with more food related pictures, shall we? This time, I am going to show you some other food we had in other restaurants.

One problem with going to a restaurant is that the menus are usually in Japanese only. Luckily, we were tagging along with our Japanese friends so we didn’t have to do any ordering ourselves. Continue reading

I like taking night time pictures, especially in a city. The night light makes the scenery more interesting and colorful. When we were in Tokyo, one problem we had is we didn’t have a tripod. All I could try is to use higher ISO and take multiple shots of the same scene and hope that one of them will turn out sharp. Here we were at Harajuku waiting for an event to start and I took the opportunity to take some shots around the quieter streets of Harajuku. Hope you enjoy these photos.

Personally, We find food in Tokyo delicious. I didn’t spend a lot of time in expensive restaurants. Our trip is on a budget and therefore the food choices reflect our budget. However, we did enjoy a lot of the meals we ate.

First off, food from this restaurant is definitely fast food quality. It was the first night of arrival and we were too tired and hungry to keep looking for nicer place. As you can see from the signs at the front of the restaurant, the price is pretty cheap. Continue reading

One of the major attractions in Tokyo is Akihabara. It is known to be the electric town traditionally. Recently, it has become a must-visit attraction for people who are interested in toys, manga and anime alike.

We went there using the JR Yamanote line. One thing about the trains in Tokyo is that they all have Japanese and English voice announcements. It is quite friendly to visitors like us who don’t speak Japanese. Continue reading

I have been following news about the realsize 1:1 Gundam since it was mentioned in April. At the time we didn’t know we were going to visit Tokyo so I didn’t have a lot of expectation of taking pictures of it. The last time when they had Gundam Crisis in Fujiku Highland Park in 2007, I miss seeing it when we were in Tokyo. This year, we just happened to have a trip to Tokyo when Gundam at Odaiba is being exhibited. Actually the official opening is not until July and we were there in June. It was a nice surprise that I got to see a fully standing Gundam and I really appreciate the results of excellent project management in Japan :)
If you are interested in reading about Gundam Crisis, please see Danny Choo’s coverage.

To get to Odaiba, we took the Yurikamome train from Shimbashi station. Continue reading
