Here is my second mirror-less interchangeable lens camera – a Sony NEX-5N, just released not too long ago.  My first mirror-less interchangeable lens camera is a Lumix GF2. So what is wrong with the GF2? I will talk about what I don’t like about it in another blog post, but first let’s take a look at the new Sony NEX-5N :)

Finally decided to get the Magic Trackpad in anticipation of OSX Lion’s new gesture support in Safari and Full Screen Apps.  It was pretty impressive during their WWDC Key Note back in June. Compu2000 in Canada has this item on sale for $61 instead of the regular price of $69 so it wasn’t too difficult of a choice really.

This is my second AirPort Extreme Base Station. The first one I owned, I bought through the Apple Online Refurbished store 3 years ago.  At the time, the unit was a Draft N unit and didn’t have simultaneous dual band.  (For the geekiest of you, it was model A1143, the first AirPort Extreme that came with Gigabit network ports.)  Today, I upgraded to the latest from Apple, released on June 21, 2011 to replace the old router I have been using.

Wow, that was fast.  It has only been 3 months since I got my GF2, Panasonic today announced the successor to the GF2: Lumix GF3. Dpreview.com has a preview of the camera itself, head over there to take a look for yourself.

It is pretty amazing how small these cameras can get.  Personally, I have already found the GF2 a bit small to handle as I sometimes press the buttons on the back unintentionally while adjusting the scroll wheel.  Hopefully with the new combined dial/4 way controller, it will be a bit easier to handle as there are yet fewer buttons on the back now. With a touch screen, the user interface design definitely has changed a lot from the traditional hardware buttons point of view. I found the touch screen very responsive and intuitive to use.

Pricing wise, it will be the same as how the GF2 was priced: US$699 with a 14mm f2.5 kit lens, US$599 with a 14-42mm zoom lens.  General availability will start in July.  More info can be found on the Panasonic web site.

I am pretty happy with the GF2 and if I had money, I probably would get the GF3 just for kicks, too.  (now my wife will definitely give me a kick for wanting yet another toy :P)

It has been a long wait since the Lumix GF1 was released. I almost broke down to get the GF1 but decided to wait for the GF2 instead.  Patience always pays off :)

Getting a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for my computer equipment hasn’t been new.  I have had numerous UPS’es for my other computers and they have been maintenance free, confidence adding piece of hardware to combat electrical surge and blackouts. What is new is trying a different brand and form factor this time.
