Halloween is finally here. We were at Steveston Village looking for scary looking things.
Archive for month: October, 2011
Leaves on a lot of maple trees are turning red and falling off the branches. It does not take long for the maple trees to change into their autumn coats with brilliant colours but at the same time the brilliance does not last very long. These photos were taken close to the Marine Drive skytrain station along the Canada Line.
We are getting so close to Halloween and I can’t help to post some pumpkin photos. We are lucky that we have lots of pumpkin patches around our neighbourhood and it is always fun to visit them when they open only for the month of October.
If you are like me who likes night photography, you would find Gastown a wonderful place for taking shots. It is quite an attractive part of Vancouver with lots of unique buildings and it is often lit up very well. There are also lots of restaurants and places for drinks. It is also where Revolver Coffee is. Again, these photos are taken using the Sony Alpha NEX-5N without a tripod.
I am also amazed how well the kit lens (E18-55mm OSS) performs. It has a little bit of flare when pointing it directly at a light source. It has some colour aberration but quite acceptable. It has a bit of barrel distortion in its wide range (18mm) but that sometimes can create some nice effect. The overall picture quality is great for such a small little lens. I can’t wait to see what the 30mm f/3.5 macro and the 50mm f/1.8 can do.
Have you tried horseback riding before? I have a couple of friends who used to ride horses but I never got a chance to see them on their ponies when they had them. One day I accidentally ran into this equestrian school and thought I would check it out. It happened to be their open house on that day. I know very little about horseback riding. Instead of pretending to know what is going on, I just have photos to show you….
The daylight is getting shorter and shorter. Which means by the time I get off work, the sun would have already set. So naturally I am taking more sunset and evening photos before the rainy season arrives. The Sony Alpha NEX-5N is pretty handy. I am having it with me regularly and it handles low light condition very well. All the photos in this post is taken without a tripod. When you scroll to the bottom of the post, you will see some night shots taken by this camera, too. I like this little camera!
Was introduced to Blackrapid line of camera strap by a friend and I am very impressed by the design and quality of the product. I ordered the RS-Sport 2 strap with 2 bonus quick release plates for use with Manfrotto tripods which I currently do not own (yet). The bundle was offered at Amazon and is cheaper than buying just the RS-Sport 2 directly from Blackrapid.
Was out to take some more Autumn photos at Minoru Park in Richmond. This time around, there are more photos of wildlife than plants.
